GIRL: Bishop Kearney senior Lexy Rivera won the prestigious Senior Individual award, earned after performing a solo cheer/dance routine of at least 1 minute, 15 seconds in front of a panel of judges, at the Greater Rochester Cheer and Dance Championships at Blue Cross Arena at the Community War Memorial.

BOY: Brockport sophomore wrestler Barton Peters, an All-Greater Rochester pick last year, beat Spencerport's Sal Mingoea, 11-0, in the 106-pound final of the Monroe County Championships to help the Blue Devils finish runner-up to the 21-time defending champion Rangers.

GIRL: Greece Odyssey bowler Kara Mangiola rolled four straight games of 200 or more, which placed her as Monroe County's leader with a 215 average. She rolled a 513 two-game series (244 adn 269) at Clover Lanes. That also is tops in the league.

BOY: Wayne wrestler Frank Affronti won the 160-pound weight class last weekend at Eastern States Classic at Sullivan Community College. The division had 42 wrestlers.

She also had 19 points, 7 rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists in a victory over Spencerport.

BOY:Greece Athena's Brian Smith, an All-Greater Rochester indoor track sprinter, set a Section V record during the RIT Tiger Invitational when he ran the 300 meters in 34.64 seconds on Jan. 6.

GIRL: Batavia senior Erica Williams broke the Section V record in the shot put with a heave of 40 feet, 11 inches in a Rochester Winter Track League meet. That topped the 2009 mark of 40-2 recorded by Antoinette Johnson of Eastridge. Her toss ranks second in the country this season among throws reported on www.milesplit.com. 

BOY: Jefferson senior guard Joe Gray had 39 points 15 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 blocks in a 69-68 win over Northeast/Northwest Prep, a game in which his two free throws with five seconds left were the difference. He also had 31 points in a 79-70 loss to Franklin and 36 points and 17 boards in a win over Monroe.

BOY: Hornell quarterback Dominic Scavo, a senior, led the two-time defending state champion Red Raiders to a 35th straight win, the state's longest streak, in a 41-0 rout of Midlakes in the Section V Class B football semifinals.

GIRL: Pittsford junior swimmer Olivia Holodnik swam the second fastest 500 freestyle time in Section V (5:16.97) on Oct. 11 against Penfield. Her 200 free time of 1:59.60 that day also was a career best.

BOY: Honeoye Falls-Lima cross country runner Cooper Roach was the overall winner in his third consecutive Monroe County league meet Tuesday at Harris Whalen Park in Penfield, as the Cougars beat Pittsford Mendon and clinched the team's second division title in three years.

GIRL: Penfield volleyball outside hitter Allison Cappellino had 77 kills in 21 sets as the Patriots (12-0) won the Garden State Challenge against top competition in New Jersey. The All-Greater Rochester pick had 6 kills, 10 digs and 3 blocks in the finals.

BOY: Victor volleyball outside hitter Erik Griffin had 17 kills in a win over Brockport, 15 kills in a win over Irondequoit and 19 kills in a five-set win over previously unbeaten Penfield.

GIRL: Victor swimmer, Courtney VanWinkle, set a school record in the 100-yard butterfly (59.37 seconds) in a meet with Mercy. The senior is unbeaten in every dual meet in the past 1.5 seasons.

BOY: Gates Chili cross country runner, Travis Jordon, won the Varsity AAA unseeded race at the McQuaid Invitational, his fourth first-place finish this fall. He ran the course in 15 minutes, 38 seconds.

GIRL: Palmyra-Macedon senior tennis player, Marie Black, a fifth-year player who is on the brink of becoming the first female in school history and 10th player overall to reach 100 career wins. Black took a 99-27 mark into last Thursday's action.

BOY: Webster Schroeder soccer player, Anthony Rozzano, scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Webster Thomas, the lone goal in a 1-1 draw with Rush-Henrietta and had 2 goals and an assist in a 5-0 romp vs. Irondequoit for the defending Section V Class AAA co-champions.

GIRL: Honeoye Falls-Lima swimmer, Cari Stankaitis, set a 100-yard freestyle pool record at Spencerport, winning in 53.96 seconds. It's the second-fastest reported time in the state this year.

BOY: Avon football player, Brandon Fuentes, a senior receiver who scored four touchdowns in a 34-20 comeback win over LeRoy. He also had 170 yards rushing on 10 carries.

GIRL: Canandaigua cross country runner Meghan McCormick, a senior, won the Braves' first Monroe County league meet this season at Mendon Ponds Park. She was an All-Greater Rochester team pick last fall. 

BOY: Eastridge volleyball hitter Tyler Blank, a junior, led the way to the Lancers' 4-0 start, including a win over last year's Section V Class A runner-up, Rush-Henrietta.

Penn Yan senior Dylan Yonts capped an amazing Class C tournament with two goals and an assist to earn MVP honors as the Mustangs (16-3) defeated Bath 12-6 for the championship. Yonts scored 19 goals with 13 assists in Penn Yan's four games, including an eight-goal, four-assist effort in a semifinal win over Palmyra-Macedon.

Pittsford Mendon senior Brittany Grage pitched a six-hitter with seven strikeouts as the Vikings (19-1) avenged their only regular-season loss with a 10-0 rout of Mercy in the Class A1 softball title game Thursday. Grage earned tournament MVP honors after her performances, which included pitching a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in Mendon's 14-0 win over crosstown rival Pittsford Sutherland.

Penfield junior Leila Mantilla set a Parma Park course record on Tuesday to help the Patriots, ranked No. 8 in the state in Class AA, remain undefeated at 7-0. Mantilla ran the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 16 seconds, breaking the old mark held by former Hilton star Allison Sawyer by 13 seconds.

Girl: Newark basketball player, Marissa Bunce, has been part of the glue that helped keep the Reds together en route to winning the school's first state championship (Class A). A shooting guard who scored 1,200-plus points in her career, she did a little bit of everything for Newark.

Boy: Bishop Kearney basketball player, James Taylor. After leading the JV team in scoring last season, he came into his own this winter to give the Kings a third scorer as they won their first state title (Class B). He also scored 20 points in Friday's Federation Tournament semifinal win.

Boys: Avon senior point guard Dan Banach scored 21 points during the Braves' 67-47 win over Randolph in the Class C state basketball quarterfinals and added 20 points during a 61-45 win over Oyster Bay as the Braves (26-1) advanced into the state championship for the first time in school history.

Girls: Newark senior Alyssa Fenyn scored 26 points with 12 rebounds and 6 assists during the Reds' 64-45 Class A state quarterfinal win over Amherst and added 10 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals in the state semifinals to move Newark (24-2) into the state championship.

Boys: Honeoye Falls-Lima senior Steve Zotter swept both the slalom and giant slalom runs at the state Alpine championships Tuesday and Wednesday to claim the Alpine combined championship at Bristol Mountain.
 
Girls: Pittsford Mendon senior guard Carly Napier connected for a school-record eight 3-pointers during the Vikings' 63-36 win over Victor Monday night. Napier followed that up with a 14-point game as Mendon advanced into the Class A sectional semis with a win over Eastridge on Thursday.

Boy: Kendall senior guard Josh Laureano scored 39 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed 10 rebounds during a 72-67 win over Northstar. Laureano went 11 of 12 on free throws and hit four 3's in the win. Earlier in the week Laureano scored 23 points as the Eagles (12-8) defeated Lyndonville 60-45.

Girls: Greece Odyssey senior forward Kourtney Damann set a school record with 34 points during the Leopards' 62-58 non-league win over Jefferson. Damann, who had broken the scoring record three times this month, also grabbed 15 rebounds in the Odyssey (7-13) win.

Boy: Gates Chili senior Pat Manners rolled a 300-game during Thursday's Class A sectionals at AMF Gates Lanes. His six-game total was 1,303 pins. Manners' previous high game was 289.
 
Girl: Honeoye Falls-Lima senior Kelly Burgart won both of her Slalom and Giant Slalom races to claim the Section V Class A Alpine Combined championship Wednesday. Burgart's strong performances guided the Cougars to their third-straight team title.

Girl: Fairport girls soccer goalkeeper, Melissa Martens, who recorded 10 saves in a 2-0 win in the state semifinals against East Islip, and also played solid in a 1-0 loss in the Class AA title game.

Boy: Honeoye Falls-Lima boys cross country team, which finished fourth out of 27 teams in the state Federation Championships. Coach Bernie Gardner's team finished higher than any Section V boys team at Federations has since 1989.

Boy: Senior Mike Humphrey caught 12 passes for 153 yards, including a crucial 55-yard catch and run for a score as LeRoy (10-0) beat Oakfield-Alabama, 27-17, for the Class C football championship. It is Le Roy's 14th sectional football title -- most in Section V history.
 
Girl: Hilton senior Stephanie Monnat successfully defended her all-around title and helped lead the Cadets to their third-straight team gymnastics title Wednesday night at SUNY Brockport. Her all-around score of 36.1 points shattered her own season-best, as did her score on the floor (9.425).

Boy: Fairport junior goalie Kyle Metcalfe stopped all 14 shots as the Red Raiders blanked Rush-Henrietta 1-0 Thursday to repeat as Class AAA sectional champions. Metcalfe also shutout Spencerport 1-0 Monday night to advance Fairport into the finals.
 
Girl: Webster Thomas senior Chellie Johnson scored three goals during the Titans' semifinal field hockey win over Gates Chili Tuesday and added two goals during Thomas' 3-0 win over Fairport Friday night to send the Titans to their first ever sectional title game.

October 25, 2008:

Boy: Senior running back Tim Smith scored six touchdowns and had 333 all-purpose yards, including a 91-yard kickoff return for a score, in Oakfield-Alabama's 63-34 win over Dansville in the Section V Class C football quarterfinals.

Girl: Penfield senior Sarah Tranelli shot a 81, including 39 on a windy back nine, at Ridgemont Country Club to win the Section V girls golf championship by four strokes.

October 18, 2008:

Boy: Freddie Thomas soccer player Marcelino Figueroa scored nine goals and added six assists as the Titans went 3-0.

Girl: Webster Thomas junior cross country runner Brianna Deming set a Webster Park course record, running in 18 minutes, 46 seconds Tuesday.

October 14, 2008:

Girl: Bloomfield junior forward Ashley Hastings scored two goals during a 5-0 win over Waterloo and added three goals during a 9-0 win over Desales to help the Bombers improve to 16-0.

Boy: Webster Thomas quarterback Jake Bolan completed 21 of 38 passes for 304 yards and five touchdowns as the Titans won a shootout over Spencerport, 53-43.
